8:37p | I can has Another groovy box? Check out what arrived at Casa Hobgoblinn tonight! A box of "obscure grooviness" from nwhepcat! Yummy snack-like things, a very pink frisbee, a pen and pencil set, a cool card, A lovely feathered piece of art, very colorful, and best of all a Real Fairy Wand. The penguins were indeed a nice touch-- thanks for pointing that out. Did I forget anything? At any rate, it was a wonderful homecoming present. Glad I got it this week and not next, when I wouldn't be here to get it anyway. I'll let you know how that wand works out.Oh, and Wee Hob commandeered the box and the styrofoam peanuts to make a "lego guys battlefield." He is quite pleased. 7:08p | [greed] cultural memory; porn 1. We went to two libraries today and now have library cards in TWO awesome systems. LOVE. At the KC library, in the lgbt section, I was suddenly overwhelmed by the number of books available -- I was just pulling out everything that interested me and realized I had too many to carry -- and as I left I felt personally distressed at the memory of a girlhood without those books available. And it's not my girlhood -- I was so amazingly lucky; I never felt a lack of books. But looking at THIS selection, I felt how meager the pickings were in my hometown, and the knowledge that people -- people I know, people I'm related to -- had no books, or had hateful books, or had chapters from reference books that they clung to because it meant they weren't alone -- and I was overwhelmed. And grateful and greedy, because I can read as much as I want, because I have all the books I could possibly want right at my fingertips, books about my tribe. 2. Porn battleeeeeee! Finally. 7:05p | Fan Video: Judgment Day (Worksafe) And on the subject of angsty videos, here is my third video offering of the day. This one cranked the angst factor up off the charts. I can't even really explain what this is. It *is* a video, but it's also a story. I really didn't intend to be this confusing! I was listening to music while writing and this song came up on my media player. It's called Judgment Day. It's by Shiloh and it's on the soundtrack for The Civil War. ( It's a Broadway musical with Dr. Maya Angelou and James Garner in it.) Anywhom, there I was, only half listening to it and suddenly this video just drops into my head and I could see the whole thing. So I had to do it. It *is* a bit long, coming in at 6:57, including credits. It should also come with a big, red angst warning:  This is not happy or fluffy. This is how Rupert feels on those endless, dark nights when he's alone with his inner demons. Now that I've scared you, on to the video! |

11:55p | Oostende; yoga in Amsterdam Oostende was lovely. We walked along the tide line, wallowed in the sand, and slept. It's a sort of simple pleasure especially valuable for people who live as far from the sea as I do. The hotel was called Andromeda, and it's a really decent four-starer near Kursaal. Clean, quiet, spacey, good service. Tales of BMF: 1. He has a very funny habit: he takes his pillow out of its pillow case in his sleep. I had heard about it from him but this time I could observe it. He really does! And he fell from his bed :) 2. BMF was send to the shop next door to buy a bottle of water. About two hours later pj, dying from thirst, texted him to ask if he was alive at all. It turned out, he decided to drink some beer and meditate at the beach. I caught him on can #7. But he did buy a big bottle of water, first thing, and carried it on him for two hours :) ( A couple of Oostende pics behind the cut ) Btw, I remembered that I had gone to yoga in Amsterdam. To Iyengar Yoga Studio Amsterdam (Molenpad 15-17, on the corner with Prinsengracht). It was a beginners class and it was decent, meaning that it was very focused on correct poses and very detail-oriented but I can't say I liked it. Because IMO, it wasn't a very balanced class. In 1.5 hrs, there wasn't a single twist or sitting bend. No full Sun Salutation, in any degree of complexity. And no real warm-up. It's pretty hard to do any kind of stretch on cold muscles in a cold room, I'd say. Now we are in Antwerp, for two more days. Apparently, we are bypassing Brugge 'cos we don't have enough time in Belgium. :( Antwerp is unexpectedly small and also very lovely. I suspect my appearance online will be very limited 'cos Wi-Fi here is only in the lobby and hugely expensive, but my laptop battery is dead so I can't walk around trying to pick a free one. Anyway, I'm going back home in two days, so see you all then! |

Author: Emmilyne (no active LJ account that I know of) Length/Word Count: Four chapters, 40,753 words total Alternate Links to Fic/Art: The Quidditch Pitch (must be a registered user) Pairing: Harry/Ginny with mentions of Ron/Hermione Rating: NC-17 Author's Website: I couldn't find one Why everyone should read this: This is another post-HBP fic that takes place in the same time period as "Around the Twist." Harry is off hunting Horcruxes, and Ginny is helping Fred and George at their shop and feeling frustrated. You may be familiar with Emmilyne's writing; one of her other stories was a RonHermione rec for this month, and her long (and now abandoned I think) WIP "Of Hearts and Heroes" is quite popular. Her style is richly detailed, and she is skilled at describing nuances of emotion and action. This fic highlights the very best of her writing; the anger and tension (sexual and otherwise) between Harry and Ginny is palpable, but the tenderness and caring are there too. The alternating points of view from chapter to chapter are well done, and the ending is creative and brilliant. I promised plenty of smut this month, and this fic has it in spades; this is definitely not your vanilla "first time" fic.

Just wanted to make sure you knew that. *sigh* I won't go into this in any detail, but for those of you who already know what I'm talking about: does anyone remember offhand if any of my footnotes link to a site I would prefer they not link to? (Wow, way to achieve clarity there, self.) Off the top of my head I don't remember, and a quick skim-through is showing me nothing. I don't actually expect any of you to remember if I don't, but if you DO ever, at some point, notice a link fitting this admittedly-vague description, could you let me know? Those of you who have no idea what I mean...oh, lucky you. Just think of it this way: Mina's author doesn't stick people's real names or addresses or places of employment in Mina's footnotes, and she wants to make sure she isn't helping anyone else do that. Also, she's very pretentious, so she talks about herself in the third person a lot and then can't work out how to stop. |
